It's a Texas tradition to take pictures of your children, family and pets in the Bluebonnets every Spring

Friendship

This morning while Mike and I were sitting at Starbucks, I noticed a group of 4 older women, maybe in their 70's enjoying a cup of coffee together. They were chatting and laughing and seemed like they were having such a great time just being together in one another's company.

It made me think about the value of friendships in my life.  I have friendships from all walks of life. Friends that I have known since I was born to friends that I have met as an adult. Each one of these women have brought so much to life and I am so grateful for each and every single one of them.  They have each taught me something special and have made my cup runneth over.

So today, my blog is dedicated to my friends...all of you! Thank you for being a part of my life and sharing in my journey with me. You will never know how much you mean to me!

I hope that one day, when we are all in our 70's, we will find ourselves sitting around a table somewhere, chatting, laughing, and drinking coffee. And relishing the time that we get to spend together, enriching one anothers lives...

Weekend Re-arranging

Isn't it funny how one little idea can spark your imagination and lead to more and more ideas?!

Last week, I decided that I wanted to start reading more again so Mike and I went to the local library, got a library card and borrowed a few books. I got a few novels out to read as well as some books on vegetarianism and clean eating.

Clean eating is basically getting rid of all the processed foods in your diet, eating fruits, vegetables, beans, lean protein and whole grains. It's focus is mainly on adding more whole grains to your diet, and since Mike and I are now veggies, I found it very interesting. We were eating lots of fruit, vegetables, beans and soy protein but I wasn't doing a very good job of incorporating grains into our diet and we were still eating quite a lot of processed foods.

So, on Saturday morning as we were taking Sandy on her usual 3.5 mile walk around the lake, I said to Mike that I would like to go to Whole Foods and get some grains. Which in turn, led to us deciding that we were going to go to IKEA to get some glass storage jars for the grains because I had seen some there before that I liked.

So, we went to IKEA and as we were walking around we really took notice of how IKEA is all about maximizing small spaces. Living in an 800 square foot condo has it's challenges space wise and we decided to pay attention to how the individual spaces were laid out. After seeing how things were laid out, we realized that we could do a lot more in our place to make better use of the space. We came up with some ideas of what we could do and on the drive home we discussed all the possibilities for re-arranging. AS we talked, we realized that the space where we wanted to move the TV didn't have a cable jack. We could have the landlord run a new cable line through the wall but Mike brought up the idea of getting rid of our cable altogether and getting Apple TV. Apple TV is a small device that hooks up to your television and uses wi-fi to stream shows. You can purchase your shows or seasons a la carte through i-Tunes so you are only paying for what you really want to watch instead of a monthly bill. You can also purchase a Netflix online streaming subscription for 7.99 a month and stream unlimited movies, shows, etc.

So...

On the way home we stopped at the Apple store and bought Apple TV :) and I signed up for Netflix and we canceled our cable.

When we arrived home we decided that there was no better time than the present to start re-arranging so we went right too it. We moved all the furniture in the living room, switched out our big dining room table for the smaller bar height one we had previously used and were storing on our deck. Then we reorganized the bedroom as well and discovered a way to give us a lot more usable space. We were busy and after I de-cluttered some of my knick knacks we found that the new lay-out had really given us a lot more usable, functional space.

The ending to my story really does have a point :)

In my quest to want to read more books, we've incorporated more healthy grains into our diet, rearranged the house and made it more functional and we ultimately ended up getting rid of our cable so we can spend more time reading. When we want to watch TV we can watch the shows or movies that we really like instead of sitting mindlessly in front of the television for hours every night.  It gives Mike and I more time to talk, read, play a game of Scrabble or just hang out and enjoy the silence.

It's amazing what one little idea can do and how much you can change your life in just one little weekend :)

Happy Valentines Day

Quotable Cards

Mike and I have this card framed and hanging in our kitchen. It pretty much sums up how we feel about each other today and every single day of our lives!

Hope everyone is enjoying a day filled with lots of love and laughter with the ones who mean the most to you!

Happy Day of LOVE

Words to Live By

My two favorite bracelets...

I wear these bracelets proudly and everyday when I need a little boost, a little reminder that I can and will make it through, all I have to do is just look down and my wrist and breathe a little easier.

Tea for Mom

I have been wanting to get a tattoo to honor my Mom since she passed away. I want it to be something that reminds me of her and embodies her spirit. I thought about maybe an angel tattoo, a bird flying free, a daffodil (her favorite flower) or even a shooting star. I have spent hours on the Internet looking at different pictures of tattoos. I have saved about 200 to a tattoo file I made on my computer but nothing really struck a chord in my heart.

Until today...

As I was googling tattoo designs this afternoon, a thought pooped into my head. Tea! So, I decided to type in teacup tattoo in the search bar. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. After all, Mom loved her tea. We even had a traditional English tea party at her funeral to celebrate her! Anyway, I found a lot of photos that I thought were cute and I took inspiration from a few and drew my own.

It's a little rough around the edges I know, but I figure that a tattoo artist who knows what they are doing can tweak it a little. If you can't tell, it says Mom on the teabag :) I'm not sure what colors I want it to be but I know I want the flowers to be yellow since daffodils were Mom's favorite flower. I have to admit that I am very nervous about the whole thing. Not just the needle (although I admit, I'm terrified about that part) but I'm nervous that it's going to be too big or too small, or turn out ugly! I guess, I just have to have faith that it will turn out alright. If it doesn't I will just have to invest in some gigantic band-aids ;)

Although I am nervous, I am really excited too! I have been wanting this for a long time and I have finally found something that I feel is perfectly fitting for my wonderful Mom.

I think she would like it too, don't you?!?

My Bestie

I haven't seen my best friend Missy in 15 months! That's a really long time...

Thursday morning I am hopping on a plane to Denver to spend a few days with her and I am so excited!
There is nothing like spending time with your best friend...especially mine :) She makes me laugh like no one else can and she has always supported me through thick and thin (literally and figuratively) We've had our downs and no matter what happens in my life, I know that I can count on her..always! And I know she knows the same about me.

Here's a little photographic ode to my best friend :)
